The portrayal of an unsound mind

Here begins the long journey of finishing my grad film.
The story revolves around a little girl called April. She was an only child and had the most innocent personality. She was very bright and, at the age of nine, had already developed an IQ of 145. However she wasn’t completely perfect. She suffered from a mental disorder known as Schizophrenia, which is characterized by the disintegration of thought processes and of emotional responsiveness. She was very close to her mother, Emma, who tried to keep her daughters mind under control by making her study to distract herself, and would follow a strict routine of giving her medication. Both of them mainly stayed at home because April couldn’t attend school and Emma had to look after her.
April loved and obeyed her mother, but was more interested in playing with her friends, which were a cat, a dog, and some butterflies. She liked to imagine playing with them in a whole fantasy world of her own where everything was beautiful and colorful and flawless. Tension started to arise when April increasingly became fed-up and sad that her friends kept disappearing whenever she took her medication, so she protested against her mother to not take the pills but her mother didn’t listen. Instead her friends protested that her mother was evil and told her to hide the pills so that they won’t disappear anymore. April listened to her friends, which turned her whole world upside down.

And here is the animatic :)
